This metaphor kind of falls apart when you think about it. If an asteroid is about to hit the Earth, we would be directing our efforts at trying to stop it (hopefully), or working on shelters to survive the impact. So, in your metaphor, the asteroid is the internet and the connectivity it brings. Instead of "debating the color of the drapes", should be assembling a top-notch team (lead by Bruce Willis, of course) to go on a mission to destroy or divert the internet? Or working on building non-connected bunkers to preserve out separation once the "asteroid" hits?
