"Direct access" at this point seems to be a semantic red herring. Until further details of the program are declassified, or, more likely, leaked, we won't know for sure.
I'm willing to bet that the truth lies somewhere in between all of this, and that Snowden and Page can both be standing near the truth, leaving the administration and NSA out in the cold.
- specialist 13y agoWhat turns my crank is the nitpicking to obfuscate the policy issue. If the people freaking about "direct access" think it's wrong, I'd very much like them to correct the record. tptacek? Care to explain precisely how the NSA slurps up all the data?
- joeguilmette 13y agoAnd further, why the issue is how they have access to my private correspondence without a warrant rather than the fact they have access to my private correspondence without a warrant?
- tptacek 13y agoThat's not how it works. I don't need to know how precisely the NSA "slurps up all the data" to challenge a specific claim the Guardian made about the degree of discretion NSA has in obtaining data from Google or Facebook.
- specialist 13y agoSo then you're not a Popperian. Understood.
- joeguilmette 13y agoYou're right. Surely the leaked documents from the NSA must be falsified and Google et al is telling the truth. And there is certainly no room in the middle. And we definitely have nothing worry about. ? I'd like to think you are more intelligent than this, but the only real other option is that you are trolling, and neither are attractive or plausible.
