While certainly a possibility, that really wouldn't fit in with everything else we've heard about PRISM, including what the tech companies have said. It also wouldn't allow the NSA to view data transferred over SSL (which I believe is all gmail and Facebook traffic, at least for me) -- unless the NSA has broken the encryption algorithms.
