I've been around here for more than a year. More than a few years, actually. It looks like you're throwing a temper tantrum over these NSA-related posts on HN. Come back next week, I'm sure there will be something new over which you can complain.
Meanwhile, there are plenty of us for whom this is a very important topic. No, government spying isn't new, whether in the US or elsewhere (I'm in Canada). But there is a place to talk about how we ought to handle this, as the targets of that spying.
- run4yourlives 13y agoI am throwing a bit of a tantrum, yes. I am pissed that the entire site has been taken over by a topic that is slightly more related to technology than an F-22 is. I don't come to HN to get into political circlejerks. Why? Because we aren't any better at discussing politics than anywhere else on the internet... full of unsubstantiated claims, ad-hominem behaviour, flame wars and nonsensical comparisons to Nazis. Sure it's an important issue. No it has no place here, beyond one or two threads where those that wish to discuss it can in all their glory. There are a lot of important issues on this planet, hell, hundreds of people died today because they couldn't get access to water or food - I'd say that's more important that someone reading your cell logs - but I don't think 30 stories about famine is the right thing to do here either. I gave it a couple of days, without complaint; such is this site. But it still seems that a vast majority of people can't really discuss anything but this issue like it somehow took over their lives two days ago. Seriously, get over it already. The signal to noise ratio of HN has degrated significantly over the last few days, and it really fucking sucks. /rant Aw, how cute, now I'm shadowbanned. So much for free speech.
