Tmux can be extremely useful to bootstrap a working environment rapidly. We use it to connect to our mongo replica set rapidly without having to ssh into each machine. Tmux is also extremely useful for pair programming: you can multiplex PTYs but you can also have multiple screens attached to the same session.
