I have been using a lot of forums and newsboards for more than a decade and only 1 exists today (except for HN) which is still enjoyable for me for exactly that reason you state in your comment. These places will always be "noisy" but the noise ratio here is rather small. I don't know how HN managed this but I hope it is here to stay.
