Thats a very immature point of view.
Consulting/Body shop sounds a very easy business on paper but, its a huge challenge to scale it up. Look at their financial statements - Its a very well managed business with high growth rates and very strong margin numbers...
Its easier said than done.
- plinkplonk 17y ago" sounds a very easy business on paper" I never said this, so I don't feel the need to refute it. My opinion was not about the absolute difficulty of bodyshopping,(iow I didn't say it was a very easy/easy/difficult/very difficult thing to do). My comment said that Mr Murthy was not an entrepreneur "along the lines of the startup founders on HN". The qualifier is important. That said, to address your point, imo, starting a body shop and running it successfully may indeed be difficult, but I would imagine conceiving, building, and sustaining a software product is at least an order of magnitude harder.
- medianama 17y agoThe objective of a business is to create returns for shareholders... and they did that pretty well. You have a very narrow definition of entrepreneurship if you think it has to be along the lines "startup founders on HN" BTW - I am not a fan of Murthy/Infosys.
- plinkplonk 17y ago"You have a very narrow definition of entrepreneurship if you think it has to be along the lines "startup founders on HN" Well, good thing I didn't say that and you are just putting words in my mouth and reacting to things I didn't say. Let us try some logical analysis. "X is not a Q Y" where X is a proper noun, Y is a common noun and Q is an adjective (or adjectival phrase) is not logically equivalent to " All Ys have to be Q." Thus, Peggy (X) is not a cloned(Q) sheep (Y) != All sheep have to be cloned. Murthy (X) is not an entrepreneur(Y) along the lines of startupfounders on HN (Q) != All entrepreneurs have to be like startup founders on HN. It would really help if you reacted to what I did say.
- medianama 17y agoI don't think you have any point to make here... Just a preconceived notion that products businesses are better than services based businesses
