- mseebach 13y agoWhat is the significance of being Kemalist?
- gkya 13y agohttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kemalism https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kemalism Ideology that Kemalism brings defines the fundamental principles of Turkish Republic.
- vanderZwan 13y agoThe revolutionism part is kindof odd, don't you think? A tradition that calls for the rejection of traditions.
- wavefunction 13y agoTurkey has long (before Erdogan) hewed towards secularism in public life despite being a majority muslim country, generally guaranteed by the force of the Turkish army. Kind of like how Americans hope that if the US government ever turns on its citizens (or more than it has already), our brothers and sisters in the military won't turn their guns on us and will disobey orders.
- w1ntermute 13y agoYes, but it's actually quite common in many countries. China has had something similar since the Communist revolution (though it has significantly died down over the years). North Korea still has a very strong "revolutionary tradition" in its propaganda.
- Steko 13y ago{I just shuffled wiki's labels around and claim no special knowledge of Turkey. I'd guess Kemalists, despite their nationalism, would generally identify more with secular and democratic protestors than with the Islamist government}
- mseebach 13y agoThat's roughly where I am, but that's why I asked.
- kilkurdu 13y agoThe ideology that follows the footsteps and thoughts of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. But in my opinion It's corrupted in today's Turkey.
- hk__2 13y agoCould you please write ‟Wikipedia” instead of ‟wiki”? There are thousands of wikis on the Web, Wikipedia is only one of them.
- Lifescape 13y agoIt says Wikipedia in the link, don't get your panties in a bunch.
