Advice for a 20 year old aspiring developer? Travel. Go to Europe, get off the grid, see the world. The struggle you will have today and 10 years from now to make $200k will be the same, but you'll never be 20 again. I don't regret anything in life and although I probably could have done more to get ahead 10 or 15 years ago, I was traveling in Italy and Greece and experiencing things that were easy to pay for w/out having kids and a mortgage. It's easy to obsess about salaires when it's the "reality TV" of our industry but, as you hinted in your question, most of it is BS. The biggest lesson I've learned in life is that wealth has nothing to do with money and everything to do with time. You should work to live not live to work. Fortunately for many of us, we love what we do but please don't forget that you're only young once.
