The carpenter made the mistake of answering the question he was asked, instead of the question the interviewer wanted the answer to. LOTS of interviewers are going to have zero experience in the field they are hiring for. It will behoove the (carpenter|programmer|car salesman) to learn the language of the interviewer, so he or she can answer the questions the interviewer wants to ask, but doesn't have the vocabulary for.
