  On the article it is said or at least implied, and in the email sent by the wife less ludicrous alternatives for verification are suggested. Edit: And there are always people, especially in the US, against any kind of ID request, but they are missing the point, in my opinion.

    I actually just did the verification for the sake of trying. It took me whole 30 seconds - I uploaded my driver license, which they automatically processed and accepted. So seems like this is a problem for a small % of users - while the majority who are not bothered just don't care enough to voice their opinion.
