The point is that the means of verification they're implementing are ludicrous. There are MUCH better ways to get a verified ID without causing this uproar, and that's why the only reasonable conclusion is that they are misleading their customers and they are after this for different reasons than the ones stated.
- omonra 13y agoSo I guess the issue can be broken into parts: 1. Airbnb has every right to demand that its users get verified. 2. The way they implemented verification is suboptimal. My read of the article/comments shows that most people disagree with #1.
- koide 13y agoOn the article it is said or at least implied, and in the email sent by the wife less ludicrous alternatives for verification are suggested. Edit: And there are always people, especially in the US, against any kind of ID request, but they are missing the point, in my opinion.
- omonra 13y agoI actually just did the verification for the sake of trying. It took me whole 30 seconds - I uploaded my driver license, which they automatically processed and accepted. So seems like this is a problem for a small % of users - while the majority who are not bothered just don't care enough to voice their opinion.
