No journalistic integrity at Wired, I guess.

Because they photoshopped a stock image??? Seriously? You understand how journalism and blogging works, right?
  - ams6110 13y ago
Photoshopping an image and not captioning it as an "artist's concept" or something similar is absolutely a violation of traditional journalistic integrity. This is not a picture of a "Google Blimp." It's not even a picture of a blimp in Africa.
    - cpeterso 13y ago
Wired should have just posted an abstract sketch, something that says "blimp" but is clearly not pretending to be a "GBlimp".

That picture is not a free-flying blimp, but an Army aerostat (tethered balloon). About 10 are used to enforce the southern US border. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tethered_Aerostat_Radar_System http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tethered_Aerostat_Radar_System

        Irony?
        hcarvalhoalves 13y ago
They used the image of a tethered balloon to depict one that would be wireless :)

I find it mildly amusing that one can use Google's search by image to find the real photo: https://www.google.com/search?tbs=sbi:AMhZZivEt7uQuw_1h05O2Rn2Aya6MVPDH4bgy5UdtyprRHRjZ32Ni54oTeSWrgPNBOx2l4Sur0E2C5F06VxzYVFTvr8SEzDrIhxjn61ztnl0xtHhJHqbqltPR_1jKMhNFtbIDIkmhsqVt95uTroI3cmPHfXUXCW5c7DnIsLzShsP61omaiW3T7YZu3rgqbqNo3amVXI2qe7bp0DsbIOITwSMbIOGdDdg_1LsqFOTgjqGzLARG56tUshQWw0DL-335ECwWtuWzWa951muhl0ARLqM9g3y9PhN0b8r8P1-U76feH0Nwmbsq4Hv0vPvzJNBNwuu42DE2woO1gmQhpkhdlJ0fHAnhvqmy0rg8wkU6nYTM-QJsDeumEIfD6QLHS8S3CaGHEiiwmUkyLTSlTIga1Gq1XcbB2NTRxeUt7cVz9xLBwx9EX03ZhRy_1Vs-nA-Pvv4ebcmlvetAoORNxdsBBczspE_1rjK8_1_12ESjCG5x1FAk66D35A3y8f_13UT5P9Cuq9OEOmOA1z7Ad2wRYdtO9-Am2ZK6Qm6tDGYvParFBFjRAT_1GMx_1srXz6PpzkhtI4xI3rR0Qs6Sis-gFlvhWAn4pr3wFMTFxTq_1dV8J3qxWRhLcNXHAJvXmguO1N3DGdvFvBgQJkEDVzZRKSlANxzvCD7sqKmmtnwkkIenweHGF1Q29d3XmQnWTlVejyROskDVKLOyToN0Rx00cWAxeqf8f6V_13P0Ppc4WCQ_1JIspiSaeGorU3BF7GtGEs-EPEpzs9zHWhOdD2Q7apVRxnlrCNrj7-hg2WfCXrMCDY1ZtbzKAjJjT_1pzSrS8nbSoXoN0QSC1S-s-LJEbrskYAk_1CzHZ7GsrxANcFJwUKcLYsVD6OT-7oVKi4vebhDaFUmuw8emkYjzqo5238ww9w7YEcunXbxgjxr2iiwLVxeMV77IXacmETy4iMe2NkeqzqokDa3-RoXTUP5mgLwKgQqnwKZDkxo0pDSSX348iJTOPD9QYtFtNUt7UPw1-tP2sr1PiAl4nJxkOI8AIpMWmtTgJrkauJ2juGt2UsZHbAHVe4dB1CiT2bu_1Q-J1JQ5I-fOe2j3yC7GQHGAkQE_1iJzOa0ZbY0i4AzxRwE9y650c0U1IGAiUcDMCbXVwxciNWxiloUuGvMOpUuv32ANEQLK2ttOl32UdzM6q0H7ZHIrSWA4JNco3Qx5BsQcyDKuQ7kGPFw3Oe6SJmoJhNGa5KI2BCRYkDuzNozKmNsD5uUf25TYaHkya_11HXte7OfcmLgfYwctXIM7dhkNqj3oEDs-btxdkddao5zl9_1eeeGI_1moRQlhkC_1Exm8OvDRaPdjPH4&hl=en&biw=1050&bih=968&site=imghp&sa=X&ei=WOWjUcCPO6SkiQKYsIGAAQ&ved=0CFEQ9Q8oAA https://www.google.com/search?tbs=sbi:AMhZZivEt7uQuw_1h05O2R...

And it's funny because Wired.com (not co.uk) used it in an article before. http://www.wired.com/dangerroom/2011/03/army-wants-spy-blimps-to-psych-out-insurgents/ http://www.wired.com/dangerroom/2011/03/army-wants-spy-blimp...
