This is the god-knows-which time this link surfaces on HN and I keep saying the same thing - once all this stuff is ingrained you don't think about design patterns, you just do them. Either that or you decide what to do in a design session or on the whiteboard. Thinking about this stuff is the sign of either a newbie or lacking up-front design.
