I think luck was a big part of it. Plus, Tumblr is a really cool name (compared to Posterous ), it's catchy, unique, and 'hip'.

- progrock 13y agoI was going to suggest it could have been something as simple as a name. Posterous is a proposterous name. It's horrible. Tumblr is an equally shitty Web2.0 crap name, in the same vain as the ghastly i prefix. iYahoor!
