FWIW I do the same thing with my older, more destroyable text books, but I use a table saw to remove the spine and it works great.

- WalterBright 13y agoI have a table saw, but I'm afraid of it. Though I did manage to seriously gash a finger with the stack slicer anyway. The blade on that is incredibly sharp.
