The patent in question is pretty absurd. If I understand it correctly, Alcatel patented the concept of using an ID to reference an object: "referencing... an object that is to be displayed on the terminal display with a particular identifier" If I understand it correctly, I've violated this patent hundreds of times. But in Alcatel's defense, they patented it a couple years before I started using IDs.
