The worst case of this I've seen recently as an offer of free wifi at an airport after you.. <wait for it>.. download their app which gives you push notifications about hotels.
- kaolinite 13y agoFrom my experience they are unable to track the install of the app, so they give you access to the WiFi as soon as you navigate to the app store page.
- michaelfeathers 13y agoYes, I noticed that too. They used some strange wording about when you were supposed to be able to access wifi that led me to believe that they were bluffing.
- tqi 13y agoI agree that is annoying, but access to their wifi network is not an inalienable right, nor is it free for them to maintain. I don't see the problem with them trying to make money off of it via an app + ads... plus you always have the option of not using it?
- michaelfeathers 13y agoThey definitely have a right to do it, but there are less offensive ways of making money.
