- obviouslygreen 13y agoThe number of one-year-old-plus postings here recently kind of puzzles me. They're often quite interesting, but isn't this Hacker News? Are we really living in such boring times for tech that there's really nothing worth talking about happening now?
- gruseom 13y agoGenerally speaking, the historical posts on HN are some of the most interesting. I wish there were more of them. They're also one of the more distinctive things about this site. At its best, people here are interested in a broad range of things—a range that extends backward in time as well as in other directions. It's a shallow intellect indeed that has no room for anything beyond the L1 cache of the moment.
- yarianluis 13y agoHacker News isn't just strictly news anymore than the New York Times is strictly about New York. We do live in boring times. The 24/7 media cycle may have taught us otherwise. But day-to-day, not that much new events happens. The way I see Hacker News, it's a place for smart hackers to post interesting articles. If other hackers find the article interesting, that's all that matters.
- obviouslygreen 13y agoOf course HN isn't specifically anything other than a repository of links. And if people find old articles interesting, that's great; like I said, a lot of them are to me as well. But there is so much else going on around the world that I don't see the point in rehashing three-year-old change-of-employment announcements. I'm not trying to incur the ire of the love-it-or-leave-it crowd, so I'll just leave it at that.
- yarianluis 13y agoFair enough.
- PijoPenchev 13y agoI still found it quite interesting, especially in light of certain recent decisions by Google.
- foolrush 13y agoI would be curious as to which decisions you are referring to. The infamous 41 shades of blue was under Ms. Mayer's (now of Yahoo) reign[1] and likely would have driven anyone with a shred of art education into the fetal position given the adaptive nature of human vision[2]. It is difficult to deduce if you are suggesting that the status quo remains at Google or if you have been noticing the decisions that are more design focused.
