I've been wondering a lot recently how long it will be until the Tenderloin is completely gentrified. If SF expansion remains unchecked, it has to be just a short time, as it's literally become a pocket of poverty surrounded by yuppies
- WildUtah 13y agoIt's been a pit of crime and poverty surrounded by opulence for twenty years now. The City's government works hard to preserve the Tenderloin as it is by blocking development and gentrification with building codes, tenant rights measures, permitting, policing strategies, homelessness subsidies, and more.
- greghinch 13y agoThe Mission has only fairly recently become young, white hipster-ville though. Soma seems to go up and down with the tech scene, so assuming the current growth isn't the same kind of bubble (I don't think it is), that is just going to continue to climb as well. Certainly if all those people gentrifying the surrounding areas stay put for any length of time, that kind of collective monetary influence is going to change any city policies that may keep the Tenderloin how it is
