Ask HN: Good resources/tools for entity extraction?

Just wondering if the HN community had any good tips or resources about entity extraction algorithms? We've built our own, but I'm always looking at what's out there. Any open source tools that you would recommend. The OpenCalais API looks pretty good. Haven't heard much about the Apache product (UIMA?).
