My guess is that because this is the 2nd gen, people think it's more refined, that Amazon has had time to work out the kinks, that neither it nor Amazon's ebook distribution are just going to disappear tomorrow. The marketing also seems better this time around. I mean, Jeff Bezos was on The Daily Show hyping the Kindle 2. It's actually got me considering buying one.
