If you goto the website they won't let you login now without reset your password. So essentially you only know there's a problem if you goto their website since

  I would hope by this point most of those daily deals emails are automated.

  Looks like a neat way to ask you to go to website, which, as you wrote, forces you to reset the password. Maybe this is the way to clean up the mess and they'll only inform the users who do not click the offer ;)
