Publicly definitely clearing someone who might later turn out to be the actual bomber or an associate would have enormous political (and perhaps legal) consequences. I believe that any form of crowdsourced investigation is reasonable only if there just isn't enough professional interest or resources to pursue a case. For example finding your stolen laptop. If there are thousands of FBI agents working on a priority case, with additional private data feeds from security cameras, telephone logs and wiretaps, public "help" is of no use beyond stroking the ego of the participants.
