A Social Coding Experiment
- quaz3l 14y agoI'm interested in where this goes, if it goes anywhere. Seems like a cool concept, but only if the functions interact, and build upon one and other, not just print "Hi this is quaz3l! I defined a variable!".
- prezjordan 14y agoI originally wanted to write an `incr(x)` function which increments a variable. However, it seemed to me that we needed to "print" something, so I think I added to the confusion by making a graffiti of sorts.
- ams6110 14y agoTaken to its logical conclusion, it will produce Emacs.
- zackelan 14y agoI hope no one adds the 'M-x skynet' mode, or we're all screwed.
- chacham15 14y agoUnless someone manages to figure out what the save the world button is.
- danbruc 14y agoBut we need of course C-x M-c M-butterfly [1]. [1] http://xkcd.com/378/ http://xkcd.com/378/
- LowKarmaAccount 14y agoEmacs has included M-x butterfly since version 23.1 [1] [1] http://www.gnu.org/software/emacs/NEWS.23.1 http://www.gnu.org/software/emacs/NEWS.23.1
- JacobOscarson 14y agoMmmmm, donuts! http://www.saasta.fi/saasta/?p=5264 http://www.saasta.fi/saasta/?p=5264
- setrofim_ 14y agoI'm sure we'll be fine: http://xkcd.com/1046/ http://xkcd.com/1046/
- timack 14y agoIt will just expand until it can read mail.
- ngokevin 14y agoAnd evolve into a web framework, which will eventually be ported as a Node module.
- keikun17 14y agopropbably taken down after someone posts copyrighted code
- moxie 14y agoDisappointed that someone hasn't already slipped in: exec requests.get('http://http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=fun_harmless_social_content http://http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=fun_harmless_social_con...).content
- adito 14y agoAnd lisp will be there
- Danieru 14y agoI hope so. Once I'm done my exam I plan to add a super small lisp interpreter.
- sricola 14y agoanyone want to help with the merges? hit me up - sri [dot] umd [at] gmail
- niggler 14y agosadly after 65 commits no one fixed the typo: https://github.com/sricola/socode/blob/master/socode.py#L5 https://github.com/sricola/socode/blob/master/socode.py#L5 # - Add a funtion with your github name as its name. that 'funtion' should be 'function'
- markdown 14y ago> sadly... Did that really make you sad?
- undershirt 14y agoIs it possible to give everyone push access?
- solox3 14y agoDisappointed that people with numeric usernames cannot participate because numbers are not function names.
- HoLyVieR 14y agoNothing stops you from prefixing your function with an underscore.
- felipelalli 14y agoFile "./socode.py", line 297 print ', '.join(contributors_list) ^ IndentationError: unexpected indent
- DanielN 14y agoyeah, choosing to do this in python might not have been the best idea.
- felipelalli 14y agoyes :(
- skun 14y agoI fixed this :)
- matiasb 14y agoa lot of open pull requests...
- sricola 14y agocould use some help, want to pitch in and help? I'll make you an admin.

- nicklovescode 14y agoSomeone should make a function that mines a trivial amount of bitcoin
- livnev 14y agoUnfortunately that's not really feasible without being part of a Mining pool: it simply takes too long until you make a block. [1](bitcoin mining is granular and not continuous https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_Pool https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_Pool)
- jspash 14y agoWhat, no tests!? Just kidding. We don't need no stinkin tests.
- joetech 14y agoThis cannot end well.
- quarterto 14y agohttps://github.com/sricola/socode/commit/e8161e74a27d194c91f60bd541d46e4f983e0f19 https://github.com/sricola/socode/commit/e8161e74a27d194c91f...
- Yhippa 14y agoI've never used Python but looking through the code I think I'm starting to pick it up a little bit.
- dsyph3r 14y agoThink this maybe the first repo I've seen with more forks (224) than stars (132)
- zgohr 14y agoI can say I was initially not convinced this would take off. 175 pull requests later I've changed my tune. Now that we know there is a large talent pool interested in such a task, I wonder how much structure could be added before interest starts to subside. Surely something fantastic could come of this, but we just proved it needs a bit more direction.
- fidz 13y agoThe first time i have my pull request approved on Github. LOL
