Apple Agrees to Pay $53M to Settle iPhone Warranty Lawsuit
- lucb1e 14y agoProbably cheaper than providing warranty... Or does the court also force them to change their policy? That's the only thing that matters here. Fining them is only of use as warning for future cases, it's not like citizens ever see any money from fines.
- chrisbolt 14y ago> Or does the court also force them to change their policy? They already changed it as of the iPhone 4, which is why only previous devices are covered. > Fining them is only of use as warning for future cases, it's not like citizens ever see any money from fines. The article says "provides cash payouts to potentially hundreds of thousands of iPhone and iPod Touch consumers".
- madeofpalk 14y agoI'm thinking that it's specific to the LCIs used in only the specified models. The LCIs Apple uses now are a lot harder to trigger. I opened an iPhone up and placed a drop of water right on the LCI and it didn't trigger for a decent amount of time.
- rdl 14y agoGoodwill loss is probably worse than the financial cost of replacing the phones under warranty. I figure anyone who lost their phone under warranty is unlikely to buy AppleCare in the future, and possibly not other Apple products. The lifetime value of a customer far exceeds Apple's cost of a warranty replacement for an older device.
