I have a dual monitor setup, with 27 inch (2560x1440) and 24 inch flat IPS displays. They are fantastic to develop software on, and they cost less than my PC. I couldn't have afforded anything like this 12 years ago. I guess it depends what you call 'innovation', but from a making-my-work-experience-nice perspective, I'm delighted with the progress of desktop displays. I'm not sure how much benefit I'd get from higher res, with the distance the displays are from my eyes?
