Ask HN: Is there a Hacker News/Reddit-like open source platform?
I like the simplicity of this types of platforms (including the algorithm for hype) and I'd like to install one internally inside my organization. Have you ever used an open source platform of this kind that was clean and simple?
- benfrederickson 14y agoreddit has open sourced their code at https://github.com/reddit/reddit(https://github.com/reddit/reddit) https://github.com/reddit/reddit(https://github.com/reddit/r...
- skidding 14y agoNice! I wonder if the dev version comes by default with the same cluttered interface that Reddit has. I know it's known for its simplicity, but compared to HN that interface is kind of annoying. I'll definitely check it out tho
- mnicole 14y agoI've long been of the opinion that the people who say Reddit's interface is simple and effective haven't seen very many. I've considered forking and redesigning it, but I'm not sure how much of an undertaking that would actually be (and if it would have value for anyone) vs. doing a similar concept from scratch.
- philtar 14y agoAFAIK, it's the exact same reddit you love/hate just without the spam protection.
- attheodo 14y agoHN is also an open-source demo of the Arc language https://github.com/wting/hackernews https://github.com/wting/hackernews
- mhd 14y agoThere's antirez' "lamernews", a rather straight-forward Ruby/Redis application and its clone "lusernews" in Python. https://github.com/antirez/lamernews https://github.com/antirez/lamernews https://github.com/dengzhp/lusernews https://github.com/dengzhp/lusernews
