Hmm I'd like to see JRuby running on app engine. Who else would?
- peter123 18y agothat would be very cool.
- jcapote 18y agoDitto.
- charlesju 18y agoDitto X 1 million. Does anyone know is this is possible?
- peter123 18y agoif their runtime is standards-based, I don't see why not.
- pufuwozu 18y agoI wonder if it will run all Java bytecode. Scala and Clojure would be great. Plus PHP (via Quercus) would convert a lot of developers. Edit: looks like it should! http://code.google.com/appengine/docs/java/runtime.html http://code.google.com/appengine/docs/java/runtime.html App Engine runs your Java web application using a Java 6 JVM in a safe "sandboxed" environemnt. App Engine invokes your app's servlet classes to handle requests and prepare responses in this environment.
- tlrobinson 18y agoDon't forget JavaScript via Rhino!
- tlrobinson 18y agoSomeone already got Helma running on it: http://helma-ng.appspot.com/ http://helma-ng.appspot.com/
- jonursenbach 18y agoI'd much rather have native PHP support than have to run PHP through an unnecessary layer of Java. Thanks but no thanks.
- felixmar 18y agoMicrosoft's Azure has support for native PHP with FastCGI.
- jonursenbach 18y agoAnd EC2 has support for everything.
- icey 18y agoI never do this but... Why was this downmodded so much? I don't get it. Wanting to have native PHP support seems like a perfectly reasonable wish. [Edit: Now it seems out of context, but the parent was at -2 when I posted this]
- wehriam 18y agoDon't forget Jython!

- swannodette 18y agoBelieve it. [update] Alright no one likes TinyURL. I get it. Here's a more informative tutorial about running Clojure on GAE. http://elhumidor.blogspot.com/2009/04/clojure-on-google-appengine.html http://elhumidor.blogspot.com/2009/04/clojure-on-google-appe...
- gojomo 18y agoFor when TinyURL dies: http://fragmental.tw/2009/04/08/clojure-on-google-app-engine/ http://fragmental.tw/2009/04/08/clojure-on-google-app-engine... And, why use TinyURL here? Your destination URL isn't long; there's no constraining limit to comment URL sizes.
- spooneybarger 18y agoIn that case, you will want to read: http://olabini.com/blog/tag/gae/ http://olabini.com/blog/tag/gae/ which includes: * Dynamic languages on Google App Engine - an overview * JRuby on Rails on Google App Engine * Java on Google App Engine
