"One of the group’s model bills, “The Animal and Ecological Terrorism Act,” prohibits filming or taking pictures on livestock farms to “defame the facility or its owner.” Violators would be placed on a “terrorist registry.”"
This sounds like a line out of some futuristic dystopian film
- egeozcan 14y agoTo me, it sounds as if it's taken from George Orwell's novel "Nineteen Eighty-Four."
- mhaymo 14y agoAnimal Farm also comes to mind, but that's awfully literal.
- hmottestad 14y agoTerrorist?? Sounds like fun. "Sorry mum. I can't come home for thanks giving cause I filmed a guy burn pigs alive and now I'm on the no fly list"
- goatforce5 14y ago"What are you in for?" "Terrorism" "How many people did you kill?" "I filmed some chickens."
- IheartApplesDix 14y agoNot sure what this is showing up on HN now. The law has been on the books since 2011. We should be more interested in the new law That just granted legal immunity to Monsanto.
- ryankshaw 14y agowhat law are you talking about? I'd be intrested to learn more. can you provide a source / links?
- IheartApplesDix 14y agoGoogle "Monsanto Protection Act" or "farmer assurance provision" for the 2011 law Google "Enterprise Terrorism Act (AETA)" or "Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act"
- schiffern 14y agoThat law says nothing about photography.
- steveklabnik 14y agoJust wait until you find out how all this works with our Grand Jury system to send people to jail without trial or 5th amendment rights.
