(Everpix founder here) Everpix was designed for scale and people' larger and larger photo collections to be entirely stored in our infrastructure. Actually, we don't care so much about the number of GBs, but rather the number of photos. We have users with 100,000+ photos and it's all good as long as not for commercial use. Like you pointed out, in practice normal users have thousands of photos but not that many.
