I think that English has a challenge because there is no defined "correct" English, there is no clear distinction between dialect, accent, and formal speech. In some languages there is a clear and understood role for dialect, in those countries it is understood that most people speak both a dialect and the formal language. You choose the most appropriate mode for the context. More importantly, there isn't a necessary judgement on hearing someone speaking dialect that they "must be ignorant".
