It's not just about acknowledgement for an application. Perhaps I could understand that. However, like I said, cutting off contact after numerous e-mail exchanges is just bad form. I'd be interested in someone sharing how many replies they get after a "Who's hiring" post. Also, if you don't plan on responding to applications that you don't like, I don't think you should ask for lengthy cover letters and the like.
