Yeah, I did the same thing in that my first project was a bit overly ambitious! I ended up getting discouraged because I would always pour my programming time into this single project, but I simply didn't know enough in order to design it properly. I found that by setting it aside and working on something else, I gained new perspectives as to how to approach the problems that I got stuck on with my first project.
