Just for the sake of "cultural enlightenment", in Spain (and specially in some regions) the word "friend" is typically used in a very light meaning. Not meaning deep friendship, but just someone that you have an OK casual relationship. So, saying to someone that you are not his/her friend, that you don't want to be, and you could never be can be considered quite harsh and even rude. I can say that to my spanish mind, it hurts read someone saying that to someone.
