Don't know about a) - can't remember. I'm just happy with my vim skills as they are now. Sometimes I come across a tip showing a trick or two that I didn't know. Totally agree regarding b). I like to be able to jump on a random machine and NOT miss overcomplicated .*rc configuration. My .vimrc is 11 lines long, including 3 comment lines and to blank lines....
