I'm 35, and I have had to work hard to cultivate relationships with friends who are older. That process has been rewarding, and currently I'm in a blues band with a guy who is just shy of 60 and another guy who is 70 (one of the founding members of The 13th Floor Elevators, how cool is that?). I'd encourage that effort as a part of what is actionable on the scale of a single person. It can be very difficult to see across generational lines (or, specifically, it was difficult for me) unless you interact with people who are neither your parents, grand-parents, bosses, employees, or children...
