I haven't taken a look at the actual programs, but given the nature of the benchmarks the result can probably be interpreted as 'numpy is still quite fast' also?
- pmelendez 14y agoThe same is true if you compare it with Racket or Lisp or Perl.
- draegtun 14y agoI don't think Numpy is allowed or used in these benchmarks. However GMP is and that's why pidigits is so much slower on Ruby.
- jamesjporter 14y agoOf course an advantage of python over ruby (speed-wise) is that you can leverage numpy if you need to do fast matrix operations, whereas ruby has no such library (that I'm aware of).
- draegtun 14y agoAnd ditto for Perl: PDL - http://pdl.perl.org http://pdl.perl.org However I think the basis of these benchmarks is really to pit languages against each other and not it's frameworks/libraries.
- igouy 14y agoIs there any reason that Ruby programs cannot use GMP?
- igouy 14y agoGiven that you haven't looked at the actual programs, it's understandable that you don't know what you're talking about.
