StyleUp (YC W13): Daily Personalized Outfits Tailored To Your Style and Location
- stephengillie 14y agoYour fashion demand function has now been outsourced.
- cpursley 14y agoWell, now we have proof there is an incubator bubble.
- johnrob 14y agoI don't see proof of anything. What information are you referring to?
- cpursley 14y agoBecause normal people just put some appropriate clothes on and get on with their day. This is not a real problem. I could be very wrong, I have my man blinders on.
- ridruejo 14y agoAsk your girlfriend or sister. It is a real problem :)
- cpursley 14y agoFailed the wife test. Maybe this works for the under 25 demographic.
- pud 14y agoI just learned this product isn't yet available for men. And am bummed. So I guess you can't speak for everyone.

- orangethirty 14y agoYou definitely miss the huge potential here. Fashion is very important to most people. It is how they communicate many things such as social status, personal finances, etc. This app would allow people to look (and thus feel, act, and be) better by helping them pick clothing. Profit channels? Lots. From special sales exclusive to it, to special style up brands, or even exclusive distribution for a brand. A lot of money to be made here. Its definitely interesting, and I will be following their progress.
- rokhayakebe 14y agoI am not sure. I think everyone needs help or at least recommendations, I just asked a good girl friend of mine what cologne I should be buying for spring/summer, she suggests Bleu de Chanel. Guess what? I am buying it, and she is not even an expert, just someone I believe has good taste based on the feedback I receive from her previous recommendations. In other words, recommendation is very valuable and big business.
- LandoCalrissian 14y agoI actually disagree in this case, I think so far many startups have done a pretty poor job at engaging women. I feel like this could have more legs than you give it credit for.

- tadfisher 14y agoI don't believe it is the founders who are being engaged...

- spiralpolitik 14y agoThis is a pretty good idea and one that if done correctly should have decent revenue potential. Hopefully they'll make it available for men sooner rather than later.
- dclowd9901 14y agoI would pay for the fashion advice alone.
- esthercrawford 14y agoLike a lot of women I buy a ton of clothes/shoes/accessories. So far I've tried quite a few style recommendation sites and haven't purchased a thing from any of them... and yet, I've made a lot of online clothing purchases in the past year. Here's my feedback for StyleUp: - I just signed up but have to wait to get my first email til tonight. That's not very satisfying - I'm already bored. Give me something to look at immediately! (Now I see if I click a bunch of times I can start rating... why did you bury that?!) - I want to see what styles look like on people who LOOK LIKE ME. I happen to be petite and busty - I want to know if that shirt or dress that's so cute on the 5'10" model with no boobs would look remotely good on me. Since you're clearly curating the styles and taking the photos, I'd suggest having a few models per outfit. You know what would be even better? If I could select the model and every day get outfits from the girl who best matches my body type. Do that and then you'll have a real shot of getting my credit card.
- LilValleyBigEgo 14y agoI tried a style outfitter called Trunk Club. You tell them your preferences in looks and they pick out all the clothes for you. Then they send them to you in a big box. The stylist picked out several outfits I like, but the problem I had is that they could never get the sizes right. In the US we have "vanity sizes," which means that every clothing brand has different sizes. For example, a size 2 at the Gap is a size 8 at Old Navy. So I'd tell them I need pants in a 30 waist and the pants that arrived would swallow me. So they'd try another brand and the pants would still be too big. Then we'd try another brand or another size and it would still be wrong. Keep in mind I'm on the west coast and everything is shipped from their location on the east coast, so every time I tried on a set of clothes and they weren't the right fit I'd have to send them all back and wait a week for the next set to be delivered. I ended up just writing down the brands and styles they sent me, sending everything back, then going to the store and buying the clothes.
- tomflack 14y agoMy absolute first question: will you ship overseas? Every fashion startup I want to try seemingly refuses to ship to my country, even at cost to me.
