Public corruption in Africa? Shocking.
Sarcasm aside, this is a press release put out by a political party (The Democratic Alliance) that opposes the current premier (edit: of Free State). I'm not saying it's untrue, but the source definitely has an agenda.
- camperman 14y agoMost of the details of the original accusation have been independently confirmed by the local media and by some analysts. It's a massive scandal here. Disclaimer: I am a South African journo and know some of the people doing the confirming personally - one even stays on my property in the back cottage. The source may have an agenda but so does the truth.
- casca 14y agoThis is a disappointing comment. Africa is a big place with a diverse and exploitative history. Botswana is higher than Taiwan in the 2010 Transparency International ranking [1]. Regarding your assertion of an agenda by the opposition party, this may well be true but isn't that the whole point of having opposition parties? If not them or a free press, who would you expect to uncover these things? [1] http://www.transparency.org/cpi2010/results#CountryResults http://www.transparency.org/cpi2010/results#CountryResults
