I haven't found a good open source profiler so I ended up buying a commercial one. The prices are pretty steep, but they are willing to negotiate. A quick email saying it's difficult to justify $499 for a commercial license when I'm just a lone developer resulted in one vendor discounting the product to $99. It ended up being less than an academic license.
