Bundling a browser with an operating system seems much more innocent than the lack of openness in the mobile world.
- UnoriginalGuy 14y agoPlus even more scary, on iOS they only allow a single browser/engine. Yes, you can get "Chrome" for iOS but it is really just a skinned Safari. Android might not be perfect but at least you get a real choice of browser on there.
- kmfrk 14y agoDoes the Opera app run on WebKit?
- kordless 14y agoIt does now: http://m.tech2.com/news/android/beta-for-operas-webkitbased-browser-hits-google-play/807072 http://m.tech2.com/news/android/beta-for-operas-webkitbased-...
- bd_at_rivenhill 14y agoCan you get Apple to list it on the app store if it does?
- masklinn 14y agoOpera Mini does not run on Webkit. It's a rather special case as it does all rendering on a remote server, the client essentially just lays out an image.
- laumars 14y agoApple and Facebook were never had a monopoly and Google, while arguably still never having had a monopoly, has been investigated.
- thechut 14y agoMonopoly is not a requirement of anti-trust. Anti-trust can be non-competitive behavior. The fact that Apple has not been brought on any kind of anti-trust charges is pretty messed up.
- masklinn 14y ago> Monopoly is not a requirement of anti-trust. For a single company, you need at least a "dominant position", the other anti-trust triggers are company mergers and cartels (inter-company agreements distorting the market). Apple has not been brought on any anti-trust charges because there's no anti-trust charges which will stick to a single non-dominant (marketshare-wise) player.
- bd_at_rivenhill 14y agoThey've definitely been hit with charges related to forming a pricing cartel in electronic books.
- masklinn 14y agoOn that one yes. They have also, in the US, been taken to task over the "no poaching" agreement thing.
