How is this different than, say, music? There are incredibly gifted composers and musicians in the world today, but the general public seldom hears their work. They are either independently wealthy, or more likely work at a cafe or, if they are truly lucky, have some sort of low-level academic gig. The general population has terrible taste in music, so talent is no longer appreciated. Why should journalism be any different?
