Looking at this today, what with the MIR planing (detailed here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MirSpec https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MirSpec and here: https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel/2013-March/036776.html https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel/2013-March/03...), didn't Canonical just rebuff this analysis. I see that today they are using SurfaceFlinger, but it isn't listed after May 2013.
