How Y Combinator Schools Tech Startups
- TheSOB88 18y agoDid anybody not know any of these 80 words yet?
- swombat 18y agoThat has to be one of the shortest, least informative articles I've ever read about YCombinator. Budget cuts at FastCompany?
- fallentimes 18y agoYeah I only submitted it because I thought it was cool that YC landed in Fast Company (I'm a subscriber). And I didn't expect to see Paul, Trevor and Jessica while in my porcelain office yesterday.
- russell 18y agoIt's from the style-over-substance part of Fast Company. In the magazine, the photo is full page with the article superimposed.
- jwilliams 18y agoWell, if you weren't familiar with YC, it's informative - perhaps informative enough to go find out more. I did think the use of the "schools" verb in the title was a bit odd (Means something less positive to me).
- tommusic 18y agoThough it is a little inaccurate; the article is dated too recently to miss that Boston is right out. Perhaps it was built awhile back, and just recently published?
- jwilliams 18y agoWell judging from the pg's 8 months pregnant comment, it would place it (the photo at least) 3 months ago... Which would have been before the announcement. (Although, when I said schools, I mean it's use as a verb, not the two different locations).
- tommusic 17y agoI just recognized that I missed this reply! What I meant to call as inaccurate is that the article is dated 18 March and describes the two locations; post-announcement publication. Your consideration of the word "schools" was not at all being indicted. Your dating of the picture was some nice cross-referencing!
- jlees 18y agoAye, 'schools' is a generally negative term, or at least that's what my sentiment classifier thinks. I can't really think of a replacement off the top of my head, though - 'educates'?
- pg 18y agoJessica wishes the world to know she is 8 months pregnant in that picture, not just fat.
- jl 18y agoLooks like my plan for my all-black outfit to have a "slimming" effect backfired :)
- david927 18y agoEveryone can recognize the glow.
- _bn 18y agoDon't worry Jessica, you are always beautiful in my eyes.
- brlewis 18y agoIt was very effective at 4 months: http://ourdoings.com/brlewis/2008-08-11 http://ourdoings.com/brlewis/2008-08-11
- gcheong 18y agoRemember, the camera adds at least 10 pounds.
- bk 18y agoDon't worry, I had to click on "enlarge" to really see it. ;)
- ajju 18y agoYou lost a precious opportunity to earn some brownie points by not removing "just" from that comment. j/k :)
- ivankirigin 18y agoIt looks like some album cover.
- unalone 18y agoThat all-orange room is snazzy, and it shows up in all the photographs. What is that spiky wall made of?
- pg 18y agohttp://www.auralex.com/acoustic_studiofoam_4p/acoustic_studiofoam_4p.asp http://www.auralex.com/acoustic_studiofoam_4p/acoustic_studi...
- picasso81 18y agoGo Kate! (the architect). Also wishing there was more meat to the article.
- unalone 18y agoIs there a link to info about the architecture somewhere?
- froo 18y agoLooks almost exactly like the same acoustic foam that is used in the studio at the community radio station I occasionally volunteer at. I'm guessing this has been painted over to match the wall?
- pg 18y agoI don't think it would work to paint this stuff. Fortunately the wall is pretty close to chromatic orange, and so were the panels.
- froo 18y agoThat's why I was wondering. I've never seen it in orange before (I was researching acoustic foam before for use at home) and it just seemed like an odd thing to do if it had an actual use other than looking good. That being said, I suppose one could always dye it - that might work.
- gcheong 18y agoThe article was a bit short so is there anything to be understood about YC from the photo where Jessica and Trevor are sitting up in the front and Paul is standing way in the back?
