OT: I want to pitch cloudflare for our CDN needs. Can someone estimate the scale of cloudflare wrt. akamai (current provider), in terms of operations, consumers etc.?
- pyvpx 14y agoakamai is about 100x the size and probably 200x the price.
- saurik 14y agoIf you are going to go for the $3k/mo CloudFlare plan, you are already nearing the ballpark of Akamai, and would do good to look at the many CDNs that sit in the middle of that scale (such as CDNetworks or EdgeCast).
- acdha 14y agoAkamai is much larger – 100+K edge nodes, many collocated in ISP's local facilities – and has much, much better global coverage, particularly if you care about Asia or South America. Downside: priced accordingly.
- meh02 14y agoCloudflare is not a replacement for Akamai. They've just admitted to having a single network ops guy monitoring their network at night. Cloudflare is what happens when amateurs attempt to run a CDN. What reason do you have to pitch Cloudflare?
