I had a talk with my supervisor a few days ago about working from home vs being in the office. We're "open office", which sucks in its current form, but I've come to realize has some definite advantages.
The problem is when you have these black-n-white policies. When we're in bug-fixing, hardening iteration I estimate that I'm almost 2x productive working at home, than I am commuting in and dealing with the chit-chat and distractions of being in open office.
The bottom line is that it's completely retarded for a CEO to make that kind of decision on a company-wide basis. Middle managers should be making that kind of decision.
