The cost of New Relic on Heroku looks really high because each dyno is billed like a full server, which makes it many times more expensive than if you were to manage your own large EC2 servers and just have multiple rails workers. New Relic could be much more appealing if they had a pricing model that was based on usage instead of number of machines.
