If your idea is better than FeedDemon's implementation, clearly that's a business model worth investigating. Freeware->Shareware/Nagware might be a great option. I think it comes down to whether or not you can create a better experience, and whether or not you think it's worth your time. There are plenty who want RSS to go away forever...
