It helped me, and they (the analogy and OP) seem like something very hard to explain briefly to someone not versed in linear algebra.
Edit: clearly it's possible though, as the other replies attest to.
- btilly 14y agoIt is possible to briefly explain enough to people to fool them into thinking that they have a sense of the discussion. However this is a form of intellectual entertainment, and not actual explanation. Several times I began trying to write an actual explanation of what a vector space is, a linear function, a subspace, a Banach space, a Hilbert space, and what the actual conjecture is. I got bogged down every time.
